We understand you and your team are battling the challenge of recruiting and retaining drivers during this unexpected pandemic situation. Conversion Interactive Agency is committed to regularly sharing with you the trends, information and data we are collecting that impacts you and your carrier.

While this is an ever-changing situation, below is a rundown of what we know today:

  • FMCSA Allows Examiners to Conduct CDL Skills Tests Without Being Physically in the Truck – FMCSA said Monday that states may leverage certain technologies to perform CDL skills tests, including Bluetooth, in-cab cameras, and cellphones. To read more click here.
  • 2020 Freight Volumes are Retreating Below 2019 Levels – Even though COVID-19 responses to stay-at-home orders and community lockdowns created a surge in freight relating to grocery and household supplies, other freight volumes have steadily declined. Restaurant, auto and retail freight volumes have fallen to practically zero in some cases, causing freight analysts to forecast overall volumes for 2020 to be well below 2019 levels.
  • Key Trucking Stakeholders Urging Congress & States to Open State Driver Licensing Agencies (SDLAs) – With as many as 27 state driver licensing agencies closed, businesses, major associations and trade groups are urging Congress and state governors to address the need to make CDL training schools and SDLAs “essential.” To read more click here.

Indeed – the following is data and information relating to trends Indeed has seen amid COVID-19:

  • Truck Driver searches are nearly flat from February to March (-.48%).
  • “Regional truck driver” may be a job title you want to use if you have regional routes. Those searches are up 3.91%.
  • While traffic is down slightly, Apply Rates have gone up nearly 3% since mid-February. This shows that drivers who are looking on Indeed have a high intent to apply.
  • Some carriers may want to focus their efforts on hiring in certain states who have increased traffic – check with your Account Executive and Digital Media Strategist for more information on the states with increased traffic.

Reminder: We are also sending out updates for your drivers so you can provide them with valuable information that will help them on the road.
